​​​The Maryland Department of Planning, in partnership with the Smart Growth Subcabinet, the Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission, American Planning Association (APA) Maryland, and local planning directors, compiled and analyzed the first round listening session input. From this analysis it developed draft strategies around the core principles of environmental preservation and economic development. Planning staff then conducted a second round of outreach in fall 2018, using the strategies as discussion starters. Participants prioritized plan topics and strategies, provided additional details and feedback on A Better Maryland's direction, and continued the dialogue serving as the foundation for the plan.
