A Better Maryland’s Online Survey Goes Live

Planning Assistance in Action

The Maryland Department of Planning (Planning) recently launched a website at ABetter.Maryland.gov, where stakeholders can review the project purpose and methodology, find out about upcoming listening sessions, read summaries of session input, and complete a survey to express their voice about A Better Maryland. The brief survey will remain open throughout the listening session period and is an excellent avenue for those who would like to share their opinion. Planning designed the outreach process to provide as many avenues for community input as possible and make engagement easy and convenient.

The purpose of the listening sessions and the larger statewide dialogue is to connect with stakeholders and solicit feedback about vital resources and information that A Better Maryland might include, and how it can help local governments and state agencies better meet local planning needs. Planning kicked off the effort with listening sessions in Garrett County on November 6, and recently conducted sessions in St. Mary’s (11/28) and Wicomico (11/29) Counties. In a series of 24 outreach events in every Maryland county and Baltimore City over the winter and early spring of 2017-18, Planning will engage as many Marylanders as possible in a dialogue about A Better Maryland.

Session attendees will view a short presentation on the project and interact with planning staff and other stakeholders using an instant polling exercise and discussion questions. Visit the input page of the project website to learn more about the questions and what is being discussed at other listening sessions. These events are open to everyone. While Planning will be conducting them in every county and Baltimore City, municipal stakeholders are also encouraged to participate. And if someone is unable to attend the session in their county, they are invited to join one in a neighboring county.  The website lists upcoming sessions and meeting details (time, location). The following jurisdictions are already scheduled.

2017

Somerset County: December 12

Allegany County: December 18

Worcester County: December 19

2018

Howard County: January 3

Montgomery County: January 8

Kent County: January 30

Planning continues to schedule and plan more listening sessions throughout the state, and will complete all 24 by the end of March 2018. Please visit the website for more information about future meetings and to take the survey.
